The Last Episodes

Pete Sayers continued to record episodes of Dennis until a few days before his death. Although growing physically weaker, Pete's determination not to let Dennis die grew stronger. This gives a special energy and urgency to these episodes.

Vulnerable yet invincible, here we have the essence of the character Pete created over four decades. We glimpse his love for Maudie and his mum, his belligerent self-assurance, his disarming innocence, his triumph over squalor and suspicion of sophistication. This is our final fond look through Pete's eyes at the chaos and charm that is forever Grunty Fen.

So here we have five of the final six tales from Grunty Fen. Imagine Mr South's fury and dismay when Dennis is asked to do voiceover work. Dennis has new plans for his future with Maudie. When Gran finds an insurance policy perhaps their ship has finally come in. And toad in the horn, anyone?
