Description
This collection comes from 1993.
Dennis, General Conslutant
Dennis has decided to change his career, and as his first move he pulls out his John Bull Printing Set. How does he show some original thinking? And why does Oily Ollie flap his doors? Plus, there’s a different song to go out with. Listen out for: funeral cards, Boris Karloff, green frocks, a roll of lead and a jar of pickled onions.
The Episcopal Visit
Someone’s all of a dither, someone else has a few false starts and everybody’s got their weakness – you’ve just got to find it. Listen out for: feathery frocks, perks, top hats and tailcoats, lost property, gargoyles and a butcher chasing a pig.
The Flooding of the Brothels
It’s even wetter than usual in Grunty Fen. What’s the opposite of a Fen Blow? And who are the Dolphins? Plus, there’s a speedy rendition of Fen Tigers. Listen out for: Spam pasties, roofing felt, hymnals and hassocks, immolating, a knoll (again), the shag locket, wheel bogies and rain, rain, rain.
Crime and Punishment
The BBC Current Affairs Directorate is sticking its nose in again. Why is there apparently very little crime in Grunty Fen? Why has PC Fairbrother been getting letters? And why is he afraid?
Listen out for: fuchsias, traffic, shiny trousers, a powerful knowing look, a pedalling posse and a river cruiser. Oh, and there’s a flare-up.
The Art of Shaving
How does shaving lead to a cure for carrot fly? How do you mollify a fly? And what’s Gran’s spy system? Could the answers be right under Dennis’s nose? Listen out for: carrots (obviously, if you’re talking about carrot fly), Erasmic, cheese straws, the Mullard, the Hero Mirror and a confused Mr South (as usual).
Running time: Over an hour, if you can stand it.
